The 2014 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) displayed a strong showing by Canadians. While Mike McDonald fell just short of his second EPT title, and joining McDonald at the final table of the Main Event were two other Canadians as well, it may be the Greenwood brothers who achieved the biggest accomplishment.
Among those who cashed in the Main Event were the Greenwood brothers from Toronto: Luc, Sam, and Max. Cashing in a major event is a fairly impressive result, even for seasoned pros, so to see all three brothers cash in a single event is noteworthy. To the best of our knowledge, this may be a first in poker history. A pair of brothers, Michael and Robert Mizrachi, both cashed in the 2013 PCA, but this may be the first time three family members all cashed in a tournament of this caliber.
The 2014 PCA was far from an anomaly as well, as the Greenwoods have been tearing up both virtual and real felt for years. The oldest brother, Max, is the most well known of the three with over $1.3 million in career earnings including a first place in the 2008 WSOP $1,000 Hold’em event just weeks after graduating from the University of Toronto with a BSc in Political Science. Max is a regular fixture on the EPT Circuit as well, finding three cashes in 2013 alone.
Younger twin brothers Lucas and Sam are somewhat less accomplished on the real felt than their older brother, but both demonstrate serious poker skills. Sam has lifetime earnings of over $400,000 from deep runs in EPT’s and WSOP’s over the past few years, in addition to his PCA cash this year. Luc spends far more time playing online, though he has still won over $200,000 in live tournaments over his career.

Online, the Greenwoods tear up the virtual felt. Max is closing in on $3 million in online earnings and, in 2009, ranked 132nd out of more than 800,000 players on Full Tilt Poker, according to OfficialPokerRankings.com. In 2010, he was in the top 300 of more than 1.9 million PokerStars players. His brother Sam is also closing in on $3 million in online cashes and, in 2013, ranked 13th out of more than 1.7 million players on PokerStars.
Sam Greenwood Poker Net Worth
With the seemingly unequalled triple-cash in this year’s PCA, the Greenwood brothers’ combined lifetime live earnings are just a hair under $2 million with online earnings totalling as much as $6 million or more. That would put the Greenwoods collectively 29th on the all-time Canadian live money list and certainly among the highest of online earners as well. The Greenwood brothers seem to be Canada’s winningest poker family, and just may be worthy of the title of Canadian poker’s First Family.
