Mortal Online is another title in the long list of MMORPGs that have emerged over the last few years. This one is rather young and somehow it looks like it was built in 2005. It uses Unreal Engine but it seems that that was a bit of an ambitious move because there are plenty of things that look bad.
Gameplay that detaches itself from the generic counterparts
In general, MMORPGs have a slow start because you have to do the same thing over and over again. Wonder from one NPC to another to take on quests in which you kill 10 of those and 20 of those to get another quest in which you kill a few more of other things. It’s all very tedious.
The same thing happens in Mortal Online but there are considerable differences. First off, it’s a first person RPG in which you strike with a sword, mace, axe, bow and so on, and it counts where you hit your opponent. Combat is what’s the game’s all about and after a while, you either fall in love with it or get tired doing the same thing over and over.
Character progression that makes sense
Another key aspect of Mortal Online is the way your character grows. There are no class leveling system but one that’s closer to the RPG genre. Here, you get attribute points that are offered once as you do more of a certain thing. Fighting, running, crafting, it all adds up to your experience and as you play, your character seamlessly gets tougher.
Mortal Online also features a different atmosphere than most other games. Depending on your character choice, you’re either in a tranquil place or on a dark and eerie forest. The first-person perspective considerably adds to that and makes the entire gameplay more immersive.
It’s worth it if you have the patience
Mortal Online is a good game to play if you’re into MMOs. There’s depth to it, the graphics are decent but barely, and the gameplay has the right kind of pace if you’re an RPG fan.
